My Journey- Part 1

**Sidenote: Over the next few blogs I'll be going back and telling everyone all about the past couple months and the journey I've been on/ we've been on, but mostly about my perspective on everything...Sorry, there won't be too many pics, if any at all!

What I learned in 2nd grade…..

“Fifty-nifty United States from thirteen original colonies.  Shout ‘em, spout ‘em, tell all about ‘em one by one till we’ve given a name to every state….. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona..”

Ok, I’ll stop there.  You get the point.  Some of you were even singing the song along with me (and still are!).  In 2nd grade I learned all 50 states in alphabetical order.  I can still say all 50 in alphabetical order today.  My teacher made each of us pick a state and do a “State Shoe Box”.  We had to learn all about the state flag, bird, motto etc.  My state…. Texas.  It was not hard to get Texas because in 2nd grade I lived in Florida, so naturally all the kids wanted to do Florida.  I was from Texas though, so I wanted to do Texas.  Texas was my birth state, my home state, the state my parents talked about, the only state my dad had ever lived up until that point…..  Texas.

Well, the class presented all their states and of course many states were not chosen because there weren’t 50 of us in the class.  So for the unlucky states not chosen, the teacher would do short lessons on each.  When she got to Ohio, this is what she said (I still remember it to this day!)… “Ohio.  Round on the ends, “hi” in the middle.  That’s all you need to know because none of you should ever move to Ohio.  Just trust me, don’t do it.”  Yep.  That’s what she said.  I have no idea why I remember that or why she said that, she must have had some grudge against Ohio.  But nonetheless, a few years later (after moving to Louisiana for 2 years and then briefly back to Texas) my parents announced we would be moving again.  Where you ask?  You guessed it! Ohio.

Thus my journey in Ohio began… the middle of my 7th grade year.  We arrived in the COLD.  We had NEVER seen snow and enjoyed it at first.  My sister and I enjoyed the sledding, but we did not shovel the driveway (that’s too COLD and not fun… we paid a little neighbor boy down the street to once and a neighbor across the street did it often for us, of course mom did it the most).  Eventually, the cold wore on us… me especially- coldness just hurts, physically!  So by the time I began looking for colleges I applied everywhere (South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Texas)… notice a trend?… yep, warm places.  Not cold, not Ohio.  Everyone thought I was crazy for trying to get in someplace out of state, but my parents didn’t care, they didn’t like the cold much better and didn’t plan to stay very long anyways.  So, after many school visits and lots of thinking, I chose Texas.  Baylor to be exact.  Yep, I did graduate from Texas A&M, I would transfer over after my 1st year at Baylor, but that’s an entirely different story.

So, there I was.  Young, 18, out of Ohio, ready to move forward to a life in Texas, nothing holding me back.  Well…. nothing except a boy.  A very nice boy.  A boy I had been dating in high school.  Yep, Matt.  It’s ok though, life was working out because he CHOSE to go down to Texas A&M and follow me! (I’ll have you know, I tried to break it off because I felt bad he was following me all the way down there, but he said no way and happily moved.  As it turned out he had also applied to the other schools I had applied to in case I didn’t choose Texas.  How sweet J)  Hooray!  I almost had another Texas convert J  It would take about 5 years, but eventually he also loved Texas as much as I did and we had decided (after 8 years there) to stay and live there and raise our family there.  We loved our life.

All of that came to a drastic stop in March of 2011.  The job he had didn’t work out.  However, it didn’t just not work out… it came to a slamming halt.  We both definitely feel that was God because if it had been more subtle we probably wouldn’t have listened and would have made a big mistake.  And thus began our new life… in… Kentucky.

8 Months and Crawling!

Yes, Caylee's 8 month post is about a week and a half late.  However, on her actual 8 month bday (Mon, June 25) we were in the process of moving.  Since then things have been ultra crazy... but all that later!

8 Months!  I can't believe how time has flown, but we're loving every minute and loving watching her grow.  On her 8 month bday she also decided to start crawling!!  Matt saw her first.  This is nice because he rarely gets to see any "firsts".  He told me she just crawled a few spaces.  I didn't believe him, but sure enough we put her on some carpet and there she went.  It was slow at first, but this past week she has really picked up speed!  (Especially if it's something she can't have, but really wants... like all the cords laying around while we unpack!)  Other than crawling, she's been "talking" a lot more.  She says "dada", but I don't think she quite relates it to Matt yet.  However, if I say "Look, there's Daddy" she'll definitely pop her head up and look around until she spots him.

She started clapping too!  She was very very close to clapping when Sherry was in town and then over the weekend in Iowa.  But officially, she started clapping, on her own, on her 8 month bday.  I can sing "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands" and she'll clap along with me.  She also claps if we praise her for something and say "Yea Caylee!".  Pretty funny!

Food wise, she is still eating the baby food from jars.  I have not done the jars with mashed meat or other things like mac and cheese... makes me sick just thinking about it!  While we eat we've been giving her some fruit (strawberry, watermelon, pineapple) to gnaw on... she really likes them, but isn't too fond of swallowing the big pieces yet.  She'll get there!  We tried a green bean one night too and that did not go over well, she gagged the whole thing.   She will chew on carrots though and it seems that her top teeth might be coming in because she really likes the texture of the carrots.

She's in 9 month clothes, but just because she's tall... she's got some chubby cute cheeks, but she's definitely not fat... she gets all that height from Matt obviously!

I tried to get a few pics of her on the actual 8 month day, but since she discovered how to crawl it was VERY difficult!  But here ya go....

And yes... she is always this happy.  She's really a SUPER happy baby!  She loves smiling at people :)  The only time she's really cranky is between 5:30 and 6:30 at night... then we have "Mommy/Caylee chill time on the couch", but that's good, I love that time!  Otherwise, she's pretty content and very curious about all her toys.

Iowa - Part 2

Friday night, just as Caylee was being put to sleep I hear... "Brittany, Caylee... waaaaiiiittt!!!!"  It was Cass.  She and Nick had finally arrived and she was running all over the house looking for us to see Caylee before bed.  She didn't even say hi to Dad or Debbie, just "Where's the baby?!"  It was pretty funny and unfortunately she didn't make it.  Caylee had just gone down and there was no way I was waking her up.  Saturday was going to be an extra long day.

Saturday Matt helped Dad finish up yard stuff... mostly cleaning off bugs, spraying bugs and more things bugs.  Cass and I went and got pedicures.  Debbie did her thing for the wedding (hair, make-up etc) and Nick got stuck being the list guy, making sure all was covered.  Caylee hung with the boys most of the day.

Backyard decor....

Pretty flowers...

Full view- not many guests expected- abut 16 total people.

Can you say OCD?  A little bug obsessed!

All about color... any color... lots of color...

Nick and Cass putting the cake together...

Finshed cake... Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein... Cake pops, different, but very tasty.

Caylee was up a little past bedtime, but did great overall!

The point of this pic is what's in Caylee's mouth... yep, a sucker... just to keep her happy for a little while longer.  It definitely worked! She LOVED it! But we did a bath right away... very sticky :)
 Everyone...

Matt, Caylee and I headed out Sunday morning and arrived home about 6pm.  Thanks for having us in Iowa :)

Iowa - Part 1

Driving to Iowa is not the most exciting thing.  We decided to leave after Caylee's dinner.  That way all she'd need is a bottle (which she can hold herself while we are driving) and one stop for a diaper change.  Of course, it would happen that on the highway (still in Lexington) we were at a dead stop with traffic.  So dead that Matt decided he wanted to take a nap while I drove the beginning and he finished the end (he knows I fall asleep too easily at night).  So right there on the highway, we got out of the car, and switched places.

Finally, 8 hours later, we pulled into Dad's house! It was 2am for us, just 1am there.  They were nice and took us right to our room so we could get to sleep, but someone decided that she had already slept on the trip up and refused to sleep.  So Matt stayed up another 2 hours with her and played before they both crashed on the couch!  He's so good!

Friday, we hung around the house and did some wedding preps for Debbie.  Then Dad took us to eat at the World's Largest TruckStop.  Turns out, it's not anymore, but they have the name patented.

Growing up, we've eaten at lots of truckstops/gas stations with dad.  This was by far the nicest!  They even had a dentist offce inside and a movie theater!  Not much in Iowa, but this truckstop had it all!

Hanging out in the cab....

 Hanging with Daddy watching animals...

All he did all weekend... spray for bugs... spray for bugs....

Being extra careful around Rosie, the dog.

Did not let Caylee pet Lolly the goat... she was very big and likes to head-butt.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Well, it's official!  We're moving north again... northern Ohio!  I'll blog all about that later, but with this moves comes a SUPER busy time for us.  This particular week is very busy with me having Sherry in town, us all going to Iowa for the weekend and then moving on Tuesday!    I'll have tons to write about by the time all is said and done, but first things first....

Sherry's visit!!  Yea!  She was planning on coming a week ago, but flights weren't looking good, so we went with this week instead.  I was able to get a few boxes packed (way less than what Matt would have liked probably, but I was tired).  Anyways, we had a great visit!  Started off by shopping... Caylee is so spoiled by my mom and Sherry constantly getting her cute outfits!  This time she even got a super cute, red, puff snow coat! (To be revealed this winter!)  The next day we headed out to Shaker Village.  I thought it was a working Amish town, but it really felt more like an Amish amusement park. We walked around a little, but it was sooo empty, so we headed back.  Although the drive was very pretty!  I had never seen those parts of Kentucky and it was gorgeous!  Here are a few pics from the town....

The next day we had to do a photo shoot for Caylee.  I think some 200+ pics were taken, but these were the best!

Love this because she is so bright and the barn looks so cool behind her...

So pretty and such blue eyes!!!

Funny baby! Love her goofy faces!

Steps of the log cabin up at the big house, Matt said we could go because we're moving and it doesn't matter :)  Woohoo!

Disregard the fact that I have on a t-shirt and my hair is a disaster, I didn't plan on being in any pics.

We had a great time with Sherry this week and wrapped up a fun week in Kentucky!  Thanks for visiting, can't wait to come down there soon! :)

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Today was Matt's 1st Father's Day!  I made him breakfast and Caylee is working on saying "dada", I'd say that's pretty good :)
I also bought him a present with this picture on it...

The present was a keychain with this pic.  I realize now, that is a little gay... however, my thought was that he doesn't have an office and he doesn't use a real wallet, so he needed something with her pic on it.  Since his truck is his office it just made sense to me.  The whole thing turned at pretty girly, but oh well! The thought and idea was cute, but the present didn't turn out too good.  It's ok, it's a cute picture anyways!

Matt is a great dad! Caylee LOVES seeing him come home, but my favorite part is nighttime.  I'll be giving Caylee a bottle and she'll be just about passed out- seriously, it's amazing she's still drinking it by that time! Anyways, Matt comes in to read the bible and her eyes open and she just smiles and talks to him.  So sweet from being completely asleep, to being fully awake because he's in the room!

Caylee loves her daddy and he loves her! Thanks Matt for being an amazing Husband and Dad! We love you!!!

First Swim!

Tonight we went swimming at Ivy Green Farm.  It's a farm that one of the doctor's owns with his wife and kid.  They have several horses, a nice barn and even better.... a SWIMMING pool!!  We broke it in for them tonight :)

Their 3 year old wanted to stay with us, but they had work to do so we had the pool to ourselves.  Although, they do have their 3 yr old in swim lessons (since 8 months), but it's a special type of swim lesson... it teaches kids to float/swim/float/swim and prepares them for chances of falling in, that way they know what to do.  It's VERY cool and he's a great swimmer which makes the technique even better... definitely something I'll be checking into.

Anyways... here is Caylee's first swim time :)

She did a little better in the raft, but then got too comfortable and almost fell in :)
