Eating and Sleeping

Both are necessary.  Both are wonderful.  But try explaining all that to a 21 month and almost 6 month old.  We have been struggling in these areas for a little bit now.  It could be we're thrown off by the end of summer cold we have all gotten.  It could be a growth spurt.  It could just be something we have to push through until we find peace again!

Sleeping:  Micah STILL isn't sleeping through the night.  He has been doing better about just waking up 2 times since I up-ed his meds again (better than the 5 it was!).  Still, 2 times is CRAZY for us- given that Caylee was sleeping through the night at this point.  We have a wedge (thanks Grandpa!) in his bed.  He starts off there, but he still rolls off.  Lately, he's been doing better about staying on the edge for longer though.  Micah takes short naps- super frustrating when I'm trying to keep the house quiet for Caylee to nap.

**Sidenote: DON'T make your house overly quiet for kids to nap.  It happened with Caylee because I was SO tired when she was little that I napped too.  On top of that, we lived in the middle of a horse field... literally, there were no outside noises either.  I don't know what my kids would do if we ever moved to a city!

Anyways, Micah is better about noise than Caylee, but I need him quiet while she sleeps... difficult.  Speaking of naps... Caylee was a perfect sleeper.  The past few days she has decided that her bed won't work.  She prefers her chair.  This isn't a huge problem, just weird.  It is a problem at bedtime because she needs to learn to sleep in her actual bed.  I don't care about naptime.  She has also been screaming a ton when I go to lay her down.  It's frustrating not knowing what happened to change her great sleeping habits! I'm not sure if she feels great, so I'm cutting her some slack, but I hope this phase ends soon!  She has discovered how to get out of her room too-- a problem since we have stairs.  The gate is up and we rigged her door with the other door so she can't pull it open... that makes her MAD.  Oh well, it's for her safety!

We've always been big fans of the cry-it-out method.  It worked SO well for Caylee and she can usually soothe herself.  It's working well for Micah too and he usually falls asleep at night quickly... naps are just a struggle for him.  It doesn't make it any less hard on me though- I hate seeing her/him cry by themselves.  However, I am so proud Caylee can put herself into bed and calm down.  Now we know, if she does cry for a long time there is usually something up- so, we have been going in to lay with her some and the other night (when I thought she was really sick) she stayed with us in our bed.... talk about a bad night's sleep!!!  But it's worth it!  She definitely needs her own room though, because she WON'T go to sleep until everyone else does :)  She just doesn't want to miss anything :)

Eating: Caylee has decided that she only likes fruit snacks.  Everytime we are getting ready for a snack or meal that's what she wants.  Of course, I don't give it to her everytime, but that's because they have no value for her at all.  She throws huge tantrums and THAT is super annoying.  I will say, on the positive side, if I ask her to take a bite of something to try, she will.  She's a good food tester and will tell you if she likes it or not.  Sometimes she takes bites just because she knows I'll give her something else, but that's ok- at least she tries! But the fruit snacks... ugh.. I swear, she is just like Matt in that respect!  I won't have her growing up on candy and fruit snacks though!  Crazy girl! :)

Poor Micah still hasn't had much solid food besides cereal.  I realized it was making his heartburn worse and decided to quit until after we came home from Branson.  It would have made our trip awful and I didn't want that. (he doesn't technically need it yet anyways)  He's doing ok with food otherwise... he thinks it's funny when Caylee feeds him (which she decided to do when I was finishing dishes and she saw he had leftover food).

Micah and his wedge... isn't he sweet?!
Caylee... the bed guards are off because she pulled them when she gets in and out.  She sleeps like my Grandma did- on her back, arms crossed over her chest (although here she was crying and they were still by her side).  I like my back too... must be a girl thing for our family.

Moved to the chair.. you can see her legs in the lower left corner... she sings, rocks, cries, sings, rocks and falls asleep.
 Back to the bed...
Getting back in bed... then she resumes crying... like she thinks I won't know she left her bed :)

Feeding Micah... she is a GREAT helper!
Oh ya!  And I discovered he can get out of his bouncer... crazy boy... he is SO active and ALL boy!
 Asleep in her chair...
Micah realized he didn't have to hold his bottle because his toy was propping it up... I'm just glad he can finally hold a bottle by himself.  However, he can't pick it up if he drops it! :) Still working on that...
