Christmas time is a time that is bombarded with commercials, ads, etc of people wanting you to serve. You see the Salvation Army ringing bells everywhere, the St. Jude's ad on tv and so much more....
Serving is very important. Matt and I want our kids to grow up learning how to serve. When they are young, this is harder, but still possible. (Maybe not quite Caylee's age!) However, we also feel it's important to serve, especially around Christmas. As the kids grow, we'll start to listen to the ways they want to serve, for now we will choose.
This year we did an angel tree. This might be a fun thing to do as the kids grow because they can help pick out gifts for the kids. We were a little late getting our kid, so we ended up with an older kid. I kind of imagined sticking with kids around Caylee's age... that will definitely be for future so that she can add input into the gifts. (Right now, she definitely didn't care when we went shopping or anything!)
There are other ways to serve too-- nursing homes, meals on wheels, food pantry, etc. When Caylee (and Micah) hit an age where they can serve more often throughout the year we will definitely do that. I encourage you to find an area in your community to serve! And don't feel guilty saying no to some organizations, I really believe following what God wants you to do is the most important and I also don't think he calls us to EVERY opportunity out there, but to get involved with 1 or 2 that are very meaningful.
Here are a few pics, just because I liked them :)
She was laying on her back "talking" to Sammy who was on the bed. All giggly and all smiles... definitely fit with her "Joy to the World" shirt!
