First Post

Ok folks... since I'm new at this blog thing you're gonna have to give me time to work it out.  So many people have been wanting more details about our new life in Lexington, KY so I'll start by answering some of the common questions I have been getting- one a day!

Today's Question: What does the house look like?

Well... let's back up a little...  For the past 8 years Matt and I have been living/going to school/working in Texas.  Just a month ago we made the decison for Matt to take a job up in Lexington, KY.  Matt is an equine (horse) vet and Kentucky seems like a logical place for us to be.. (that, and the fact that he was offered a job up here!).  Many of you know that I am very allergic to horses, always have been.  Ironic that I should marry a horse vet huh?  Even more ironic that we now live on a horse farm!  Yep... we live on a famed thoroughbred horse farm.. with it's red gates, white fences, black eagles topping everything and perfectly maintained grounds.  There are only a few families that live on this farm and we are very thankful that they had a place for us (especially since we still own our house in Texas!).  Many years ago, this farm (like many in the area) used to be open for tours.  This particular farm even has it's own horse cemetary.  A little strange if you ask me, but I'm not a horse fanatic.  The cemetary is filled with horses that lived and trained at the farm and some big time Derby and other big race winners (Alydar, Whirlaway, Citation etc).  **Sidenote**Did you know that when a horse dies they are buried with their heart, hooves and head?  Unless of course that horse was a big time winner, then it is buried whole and standing up in the ground.  Random facts...
ANYWAYS...   People come to Lexington from all over to see these horse farms and buses take people around every day!  I'm not sure when this farm stopped their tours, but they have and I'm thankful for that.  Given the fact that tours are not allowed and we enter through a private gate, I cannot post too many pictures of the house.  (Plus, it's not much to see-- basic, 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, living room and kitchen).  I will post some pics of the area... these are different views and things you might see from their website anyways.  (Oh... and later I will post pics of the nursery of course, so you will see some things there).  So here are some things I can show you....

This is the training track... obviously no training going on right now bc they train WAY before I am awake these days :)

This is a view from the house... if you look up information on the farm you will find that it consists of about 800 acres.  It's very beautiful, but very secluded from anyone too... I think I miss having neighbors....

And yes... it is a horse farm and what would a horse farm be without horses...  this is pretty much what this area of Kentucky looks like... huge pastures with just 1 or 2 horses! I wonder if they get lonely too... ?

Oh... and that cemetary I talked about...  Well, this is my dad by one of the graves... it is a gorgeous cemetery.  He was nice enough to drive me from Texas to Kentucky when I moved up here.

Well... there you have it folks...I know, it's not what everyone wanted, but it's what I can do :)  I will add more posts with pictures another day!
